Bald Head Island is located off the southeast coast
of North Carolina, between the Cape Fear River and the Atlantic
Ocean. Your
visit to Bald Head begins when you board the ferry at Southport,
N.C. for a 20-minute ride to the island. When you arrive
at the marina, a tram will take you to your accommodations. Cars
are prohibited on Bald Head Island, and transportation is by golf
cart, bicycle, or foot. Islanders find this helps foster an atmosphere
of quiet and relaxation.
Bald Head is a barrier island of stunning natural beauty, and
includes pristine beaches, lush maritime forest, and undisturbed
salt marshes. Some 10,000 of the island’s 12,000 acres are
permanently protected from development, ensuring that Bald Head’s

turtles and home to spectacular birds such as white ibis, great
blue heron and osprey, as well as a variety of other wildlife. |

- The Bald Head Island Club: an 18-hole golf course, two croquet greenswards,
four tennis courts, Olympic-sized pool, pro shop, fitness center

- The Shoals Club: a family-friendly beach club with dining room and
lounge, swimming pools, and beach access. Porches and decks provide
a 270-degree view of East Beach, South Beach, and the Frying Pan Shoals.
- Bald Head Island Marina & Yacht Club: full service maritime facility.
- Bald Head Island Conservancy: This non-profit environmental group
offers excellent educational programs and activities for children and
adults. The Conservancy’s noted program to protect sea turtle
nests . The organization also has a gift shop, Turtle Central, which

the Maritime Market Deli.

- Maritime Museum and Old Baldy Lighthouse: A slice of Bald Head’s
history is on display at the old lighthouse and museum. Be sure to
visit the trio of 1903 lightkeepers’ cottages known as Captain
Charlie’s Station.
